Who should I call or write?

You should contact your Georgia state legislators. We have step-by-step instructions on how to do that in the Action Plan below. Feel free to reach out to these people, as they serve as your elected officials. Your opinions matter to them.

ACTION PLAN: CALL OR WRITE

Step 1:

Find your legislators

  • Use your full physical address
  • You'll have two state legislators
  • Click on each, and note their office contact info in the left sidebar.

Note: The Georgia legislature has an Upper Chamber (Senate) and Lower Chamber (House). They can be called both.

Step 2:

Call or email them

  • Calling is always best
  • Expect to leave a message
  • You can call and/or email. It's best to do both, but calling is most effective.

Note: the voicemail message doesn't always refer to the name of your legislator. Sometimes, they'll simply say "House of Representatives" or "Senate."

Step 3:

What to say

  • Don't be afraid to just use the script below, verbatim or as a guideline
  • If you'd like to speak your own words, feel free to do so, after reviewing the issues below

What to say:

Dear Senator [last name] OR Dear Representative [last name],

I hope this letter finds you well. As one of your Georgia constituents, I am writing to urge your support for Senate Bill 220 which aims to provide expanded treatment for fellow Georgians like myself who can find healing and comfort in this medicine.

[Insert personal story here - 3 sentence maximum OPTIONAL]

I firmly believe that all qualified patients should have safe and legal access to this medication. The proposed bill would rename the program from “Low THC Oil’ to “Medical Cannabis” so there is less confusion amongst physicians and patients. Additionally, it would provide more effective products and more effective delivery methods to empower the physicians to recommend more effective dosing and delivery methods for me as a medical professional, rather than legislators determining who should have access to a legal product in our state.

As a Georgian, I am proud of our state's progress in recognizing the medicinal value of cannabis. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that all patients who can benefit from cannabis have access to it. Expanding patient access is not only a matter of compassion but also a matter of public health.

I urge you to carefully consider the potential impact of this bill on the lives of countless Georgians who suffer from cancer, chronic pain, debilitating illnesses, and other conditions that medical cannabis has been shown to alleviate. Your vote in support of Senate Bill 220 would be a significant step towards improving the health and well-being of our state's residents.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be honored to discuss this matter with you further if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

(Your name, the town/city you live in, and your phone number/email address)
